One Out of Two is an illustrated book designed and written by me, sharing the story of the years in which I had kidney cancer when I was only 7 months old and this led it’s the removal, leaving my body with ‘one out of two’ kidneys. This story is to inspire people from all around the world whose lives have been touched by this sickness by opening to the possibility of being sold at cancer non-for-profit foundations.

Consisting of 3 parts, this book begins by explaining the general story, and continues by sharing my family’s perspective and stories of those years. Concluding with my own point of view after 20 years of surviving cancer, I created a meaningful metaphor of how the kidney and me have grown together throughout the years.

By combining organic illustrations done in Procreate and real photography, the book illustrates a time lapse journal of those years from childhood to young adulthood. After vectorizing the illustrations, it was all then transferred to InDesign for layout design. A simplistic colour palette of pinks is used to represent my personality and feminine side, which has always stand out in me since I was a baby.
